Welcome to MacArts!
MacArts is run by the Duncan MacKinnon Music and Arts Trust - a charitable organisation inspired by the visionary spirit of Dunc Mackinnon, a prominent Borders promoter who brought high profile acts to the Scottish Borders in the 1960s. The Trust was formed to fulfil an ambition to create a state-of-the-art music and arts venue and community space in a disused listed building of historic and architectural significance in the centre of Galashiels with an emphasis on involving everyone in the community ; this space is now known as MacArts. |

THE REZILLOS
PLEASE CHECK TRANSPORT UPDATES PRIOR TO BOOKING, GIVEN THE CURRENT CANCELLATION OF SCOTRAIL SERVICES BETWEEN EDINBURGH AND THE BORDERS
The Rezillos smashed into the rock scene through a shared love of Sixties Garage Rock and the Spector-esque Girl Group glam of The Ronettes and the Shangri Las. The Rezillos found themselves inadvertently caught up in the Punk or New Wave movement, if only because they didn't proscribe to fifteen-minute slabs of tedious progressive rock, shunning it in favour of three-minute sparkling pop gems which would eventually be fully realised in their inimitable sound and vision. Their debt single, I Can’t Stand my Baby shot them to underground fame initially via airings on John Peel’s radio show. Their classic singles My Baby Does Good Sculptures, Top of the Pops and Destination Venus signalled critically acclaimed milestones for the band. 2022 sees the Rezillos return to the stage. Festivals this year will include Scotland Calling, Doune the Rabbit Hole, Breakout, Northwest Calling, Stone Valley South and North and Rebellion. A series of gig dates around the UK will intersperse these festivals, don’t miss the chance to see this iconic band in an iconic, intimate Borders venue! Her third album 'WEIRDO' was released in 2020 via Olive Grove Records - a record that Bandcamp Daily described as “all volume needles buried in the red, glitter bursting from every chorus.” The Line of Best Fit praised its “maximalist” tendencies while hinting that Scotland has found its own answer to the pop titans Carly Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift and Pitchfork called it “bubblegum pop [with] the scrappy glamour of a homemade theatrical production”. Folk singer and songwriter King Creosote aka Kenneth Anderson from Fife, Scotland (born 1967) in his lengthy career has released over 40 studio albums and also been an integral member of the Scottish-Canadian band The Burns Unit. In the early stages of his career, Anderson played in many local Scottish bands such as Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra and Khatoum Heroes and in 1995 he launched the record label Fence Collective with Johnny Lynch where he began producing and releasing material under the moniker King Creosote. In 1998 King Creosote made his album debut with “Queen of Brush Country” featuring the tracks “Fell The Way Down, Leslie”, “Homeboy” and “Piano Crushing Back”. In 2011 Anderson was invited to play a couple of shows at SXSW festival in Texas, U.S. and later that year his collaborative album “Diamond Mine” with Jon Hopkins was nominated for both the Mercury Prize Award and Scottish Album of the Year. Gary meikle 2023 tour
“Most blurbs are written in the 3rd person so they’ll be like ‘Gary is this, Gary is that, you can expect this from Gary’ well I’m writing this myself so, this will be MY 3rd show, or 2.5 as I’m calling it.
I’ve had several top professionals and industry people tell me over the years that I shouldn’t swear as much on stage, that I shouldn’t be as crude or as edgy as I am but guess what, they likely don’t know that as a kid growing up in the care system I was told that I’d be either dead or in jail by the time I was 30 so I tend not to listen to others and do things my way, it’s gotten me this far after all. So, this show will be a continued celebration of me being me which in the current climate of cancel culture we find ourselves in could be seen as risky but f*** it. My targets as always will be my girls and me as well as life observations on things like, new laws on unsolicited dic* pics, how equality between the sexes has a clear definitive line, all medication side effects, my loathing of stupid questions, how our ancestors were idiots and much, much more. I’m going to remain to be playfully dark and as always do what I do best which is to be relatable, honest and give you an insight to what it’s like to be me, a young single grandad who’s passionate about making his audience laugh and then be available for hugs at the end if anyone needs or wants one. See you all soon enough, Gary” Time: 8pm Doors: 7pm Buy Tickets Over 16s |
