John Mac's Flare band
John Mac's Flare Band who were arguably the Borders most successful 60s/70s band

John McNulty (bass guitar and vocals)
Denis McNulty (guitar and vocals)
Eric McNulty (tenor saxophone)
Mick McNulty (drums)
Robert Sweryda (tenor saxophone)

John Wight was an early member.

The band (originally Mac’s Flare Band and later The John MacFlare Band) was based around 4 brothers from Morebattle Tofts Farm near Kelso. They left the Borders when they turned professional and were based in Birmingham for several years, establishing themselves as a major backing band in the late 60s through the 1970s. They backed 22 different American artists on tour in the UK, Germany and Spain including The Drifters for 5 years on UK tours as well as Del Shannon for 3 tours (including making a live album). Other US acts they backed were The Temptations (including at the Albert Hall), Ben E King, Edwin Star and the Tymes.
