John Mac's Flare Band who were arguably the Borders most successful 60s/70s band

John Wight was an early member.
The band (originally Mac’s Flare Band and later The John MacFlare Band) was based around 4 brothers from Morebattle Tofts Farm near Kelso. They left the Borders when they turned professional and were based in Birmingham for several years, establishing themselves as a major backing band in the late 60s through the 1970s. They backed 22 different American artists on tour in the UK, Germany and Spain including The Drifters for 5 years on UK tours as well as Del Shannon for 3 tours (including making a live album). Other US acts they backed were The Temptations (including at the Albert Hall), Ben E King, Edwin Star and the Tymes.
