Maureen and the Thunderbeats
Maureen and the Thunderbeats was a very successful band from Langolm on the go from 1964 to 1967.
Fronted by the very talented Maureen Borthwick the band played many gigs in the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Cumbria and further afield, including the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool. They supported many of the big name bands of the day including Manfred Mann, The Fortunes, The Searchers and The Yardbirds
Maureen Borthwick (vocals)
Michael Kyle (bass guitar)
Allan Davidson (lead guitar)
George Laidlaw (rhythm guitar)
Eric Armstrong (drums)
The band was looked after by Duncan McKinnon during some of this time. They were on the verge of turning professional but decided it was not for them.
Maureen started singing at a very young age and was a child opera singer, and later in life she became well known in the local operatic society. Sadly Maureen died at the early age of 40 in 2008.
