"Ceiling"later "The Ceiling light machine"
Circa 1967-1969
Originated from a casual chat between Bob Fish " The Diamonds" and Ian "Sheb" Herbert of the by now defunct "Carol and the Citizens", about how they both admired the sound of the "Who" and the dynamic energy of the group, after a cursory tryout linking up several "Vox" amplifiers to get a bigger sound, they decided to pursue this idea poste haste. There was no question who to get on vocals, Loudon Temple "The Diamonds" front man, as was. he was also into the sound and direction of the "Who". They recruited Bill Walsh on drums, and what a masterstroke that turned out to be, he had been a member of several Jedburgh groups the last one being "The Warlocks". With only a few rehearsals the group was ready for the road, and caused quite a stir in a very short space of time.
Duncan McKinnon realised the potential of the group and started promoting them heavily, with such gems as "The Ceiling" supported by the "Four Walls"!!! who were any group that Duncan chose to "support" them (pun intended!), or "everybody looks up to the "Ceiling" etc etc etc.
Around this time there were a group of "eccentrics" from Galashiels developing a "light show" ie. lighting synchronised to a musical beat and cine slide back projection very futuristic then and pre "Pink Floyd" the "Ceilings" manager Drew Craggs (also ex "Carol and the Citizens" ) heard about these developments in Gala, and suggested we team up, so the name was changed to "The Ceiling Light Machine" the brains behind this new venture was Tom McMorran and his two sidekicks Harold ? and George Miller. This combined project took off like a rocket and within a few weeks they were on shows with the fledgling "BeeGees"/"Cat Stevens"/et al and through the auspices of Duncan became the most controversial and highest paid group in Scotland.
